Running Commentary on KSRConvocation

Hi to all,
First of all let me say heartfelt THANX to KSR College of Technology for
conducting the Convocation in a pretty descent manner. Thanx to
KSR,Princy,HODs,STAFFS and our beloved JUNIORS and for those whom I have
missed out here.
When I entered KSR @ 9:45AM, the environment was so good. A band was blowing
to welcome us. They put a beautiful KOLAM in front of the main
entrance(as usual). Then, we moved to INFOCELL to pickup our dress for
Convocation. Dress was in YELLOW color and a small rounded strip which was
yellow and red in color. We paid Rs.100/- for dress and photo. On the
way to INFOCELL, I could see a very big gate is put up on the other side of
the building(I had taken a photo of that, will show to you soon on the
web).It looks like JAIL.
When I came back to the main entrance I could see lot of my friends.
Everyone came and talked. After all, we were meeting after 2 years.
Everyone says "hai mom, nalla irukkengala". My heart filled with happy and
joy, when I saw many of my friends over there. Suddenly, the villain came
i.e., Durai mom and shouted "Convocation is not for the road, for you, go
inside". Everyone laughed @ his innocence. Actually, we were hearing
somebody like vidya & umapathy shouting all the way in the mike "Graduates
and Post graduates please come inside and occupy your seat". As usual, we
didn't bother about it.
Then, we went ahead to the place where the function was held. A huge PANDHAL
was built for Convocation followed by symposium and annual day. The PANDHAL
was built left of our main entrance. When we were entering inside, a huge
claps came from our JUNIORS. Then, we were allotted to sit infront of the
dias. We could see Lec.Mohan,Vidya,Umapathy's places were occupied by
Lec.Radhakrishnan,GunduPu,Soplanki. Suddenly, the chief guest Prof.Mr.Gnanam
arrived with his artilleries. I could see KSR,Princy,KSR's
daughter-in-laws,KSR's sons,Our friend Arun's mother, Lec.Mohan,HODs of
different departments wearing some different color dresses. KSR was not
able to climb dias easily, since it was so steep. He scolded someone over
there.
Atlast, FUNCTION started @ 10:45AM.
Started with a bang from one of compere's loud voice with lot of lies about
KSR and lot of ice for Princy. The girl flooded the mike with pre-planned
and pre-prepared wordings with some extra help from Radhakrishnan in English
and no one bother to listen. They finished after 5 minutes.
Our princy started with introduction and he told lot of things about
Chiefguest since both of them worked together. He spoke a lot without any
masala. He thanked the Graduates and Post-Graduates and their parents for
attending the convocation. I don't know why, "Graduates and Post-Graduates"
was repeated nearly 100 times in the function. Finally princy gave up the
way to Mr.KSR. He spoke little in tamil, but very impressive. He started
like a Election meeting and ended with lot of thanx to "Graduates &
Post-Graduates". Then came the Oath taking ceremony which was spearheaded by
Mr.Krishnan. He asked us to put our hands in front of us like doing a
promise. He read out some 4 quesitons for that we had replied "I DO
PROMISE". That paper was given to us when we paid the money in INFOCELL. I
have a copy of the Oath.
Finally came, the Degree certificates issuing ceremony. Prof.Gnanam took
over and gave the certificates to us. Started with MECH, it went to
EEE,ECE,CSE,MBA,MCA.
Each departments HOD spelt out the name of the students, unfortunately for
CSE no HOD(AAtha gone to study ME), so some lecturer from CSE told the
names. I forgot to tell you about the attendance of our friends. I felt very
happy when I saw lot of people came from MECH, they topped the list with 45
attendee, followed by CSE(17),EEE(15),ECE(11). I dunno about MBA & MCA. It
did look they have also come a lot. I dunno why lot of people have missed
out the function, since it will come once in their life. We must say thanx
to MECH friends, without them the function would have been very bad in
number of attendees. Thanx to them.
Out of all the HODs, ECE HOD did very well by saying something about the
students but after 2 students he also didn't tell. The others told like they
are taking ATTENDANCE in the CLASS. It was very bad. 3 girls were arranged
to give the certificates to ChiefGuest. Often collision occured between the
girls and people who were receiving the certificates, since it was one-way
traffic. It went well and HODs added the distinction to the people names. It
took 30 minutes of time. In between, Power suddenly gone and there was a
problem in announcement. Princy shouted from Podium, but nobody bothered.
so, he gave up and everyone in the dias went to their seat waiting for the
power to come. Power was restored after 5 mins. Prof.Gnanam gave the address
with his little 5 min tamil speech, not an inspired one. Onething, I could
get from his speech is he was the person who was responsible to get
Govt.Order for our college. Thanx to him. Then, they gave special prizes to
Rank holders and class toppers. Lakshmi Narayan from mech, Kalai from ECE,
Bala from EEE and Vimala from CSE(missing) got the gifts. In between,
Vidya's ally announced something about VIMALA. It was good to hear.
Something like vimala is hardworking,blah!blah....I hope everyone knows she
was 5th RANK HOLDER in our MADRAS UNIVERSITY. It came in DHINATHANTHI daily
on 8th FEB 2000 about her achievement. For MBAs & MCAs KSR's first
daughter-in-law distributed the certificates. Finally, second
daughter-in-law gave a thanx speech which was neatly written by someone. She
started with a shivering like Mr.Krishnan(MCA-Director).
Then, Vidya's ally and Umapathy's ally told some wishes to "Graduates and
Post-graduates". I could hear they were repeated saying "We wish them good
luck, bcoz they are going to jump in a jungle".
Finally, a small humourous cultural function was held by our juniors. I
didn't watch it, so i dunno about it. I heard it was also good. I must say
one morething here, the function was fully prepared by our JUNIORS and they
did their best. It was arranged neatly. Heartfelt thanx to them.
Then we were interested in talking with each other. An announcement was made
lunch was prepared for "Graduates & Post-Graduates". We had lunch @ 1PM.
Lunch was arranged for both veg & non-veg. As usual, I went to non-veg.
Tastes good, not able to eat much.
Then, we put a big ring and talked with each other. Shamiana helped us a lot
for sitting and chatting. I went to see how the college was developed in its
infrastructure. It was wonderful. If you see the building, you don't believe
it. Lot of buildings and blocks have come. Out of it, KSR Arts & Science
stood first for its beautiful entrance & Park infront of it. Then, BDS
building looks good. I could see some DENTAL DOCTORS inside that building,
doing something with the patients. I went to see AARTHI Polytechnic also.
Library was so crouded. I heard there are 5 canteens inside the college.
But, i was able to see only 3 canteens, out of it KSR Arts canteen was so
good. Lot of KADALAI was going on over there. Even some lecturers are
victims. Not able to see lot of KURIEN, GEORGE KUTTY,THOMAS,ANTHONY etc.,I
mean malayalis. I heard KADALAI was not a big blow-up problem now. I was
able to see KADALAIS everywhere without any restrictions. I went to see
GENTS HOSTEL. They have built one more GENTS hostel in-front of old GENTS
HOSTEL. I was not able to see LADIES HOSTEL(very sad), but i hear it could
hold now 500 people with 5 storeyed building. I have seen there is a new
building for M.Sc(Software Engg.) next to OLD mechanical lab. Polytechnic
and school remains the same. Overall, Infrastructurewise our college stood
great & wonderful. They have put 4 wooden boards with names of toppers in BE
in front of KSR's room.
Finally, the time to depart arrived. We xchanged addresses and started
departing in a hope we could meet again in life. I did take lot of
photographs, I will scan and put it soon in our website. You can have full
look @ ceremony and buildings and friends who came over there.
Overall, it was a very very nice and pleasant day Feb 8,2000. Function was
arranged neatly, with small hiccups. Able to see lot of friends which i was
not able to meet for last 2 years. I heard, MOHAN sir told he will conduct a
"GET-TOGETHER" for everyear. I hope it will go in right direction. We all
felt we were back to COLLEGE LIFE again in that oneday. I could see lot of
smiles all over the place. Lot of OLD STAFFS are missing. Lecturers have to
wear batch bearing their name, which looks so ugly. I think it should be
for differentiate staff from students.
Thanx to all the people who came over there inspite of their busy schedule
and enlightened the function. For those, who haven't come, you guys and gals
YOU MISSED A LOT. To our Immediate JUNIORS, don't miss this function, it
was great.
This was my experience on that day and it is still fresh in my mind. I might
have missed something here, which i will try to make it up once I put PHOTOS
and this COMMENTARY on our site.
